Laser therapy for osteoarthritis
When the joints are stiff in the morning and the ache stays with you through the day — this is how medical laser can help the body find its way back to movement.
Osteoarthritis is the most common joint disease in Sweden. The cartilage in the joint thins, the joint becomes stiff and sore, and the body responds with inflammation. Many people describe it to me in the same way: it hurts most after sitting still, and it only eases once you have been moving for a while.
Osteoarthritis cannot be cured. But the pain and the stiffness can often be influenced — and that is where I come in. Medical laser therapy is gentle, takes a few minutes per joint and requires neither needles, medication nor recovery time.
Light that reaches into the joint
Laser light is concentrated into a single wavelength and penetrates the tissue without heating or harming it. There it stimulates the energy metabolism of the cells — the same process that runs when the body heals under its own power, only accelerated.
With osteoarthritis I direct the treatment at the joint and at the musculature around it. That part is often forgotten: when a joint hurts, the body tenses around it, and a large share of the ache comes from that tension rather than from the joint itself.
- Calms the inflammation in and around the joint
- Increases blood circulation in the tissue
- Softens tense musculature around the joint
- Eases pain — many feel a difference straight after the treatment
Where osteoarthritis most often sits
I most often treat knees, hips, hands and thumbs, shoulders and neck. Hands and thumbs in particular are rewarding to treat — the joint lies close to the surface, and the trouble shows up immediately in daily life: opening a jar, doing up a button, holding a coffee cup.
If the trouble sits in a knee or a hip, I usually spend time on the thigh and gluteal muscles as well. That is not always where it hurts, but it is often where the restriction sits.
What you can expect
I never promise a result. Bodies respond differently, and osteoarthritis is a condition that comes and goes in phases. What I can tell you is how it usually looks:
- Many feel relief after the very first treatment
- For long-standing trouble, a series of three to six sessions is usually needed
- The effect builds up — so the sessions are close together at first and are spaced out later
- Some need to return at the turn of the seasons or after heavier periods
After the first visit we know more. If it is going slowly I will say so — I have no reason to sell treatments that do no good.
Safety and combinations
Laser therapy combines very well with other treatment or medication. It does not replace your contact with your doctor — it complements it. If you have an osteoarthritis diagnosis or attend an osteoarthritis programme, you carry on with that as usual.
- No known side effects when the treatment is carried out correctly
- The treatment does not hurt — most people feel only a mild warmth
- No recovery time; you go straight back to your day
- I do not treat directly over tattoos
I come out to you
Stiff joints and long car journeys do not go together. That is why I work mobile and come to your home within 45 kilometres of Pauliström — Vetlanda, Hultsfred and the surrounding area. You need to prepare nothing more than a place to sit or lie comfortably.
Employers can also book me to come to the workplace — see workplace wellbeing.
